FAQs
How do I become a car wrapper in Australia?
There are various courses you can take to learn the basics of car wrapping, as well as certifications for more advanced techniques and specialisms. At ORAFOL, we offer a foundation course, where you can learn the basics of self-adhesive signage and installation. You can then follow this up with an intermediate vehicle wrapping training course, and an advanced vehicle wrap certification. For more information, check out the details of our courses on the ORAFOL Creative HUB™.
Can a beginner wrap a car?
Yes! Our Level 1 course teaches the fundamentals of car wrapping, from understanding the materials to installation practices and techniques. You can complete this course in a day, and follow it up with Levels 2 and 3. So you could be a confident car wrapper in just 4 days!
What is the hardest part of wrapping a car?
Material selection is key to a successful car wrap, which is why our foundation course focuses on understanding self-adhesive materials, and critical thinking when it comes to choosing products. The next step is to be competent in the latest installation techniques, and to get hands-on practice of wrapping large format graphics.
How long should it take one person to wrap a car?
When wrapping a car solo, it's realistic to allow 5 days. It's important not to rush the job, but to work carefully and meticulously. If you understand the materials and techniques, and have put in the practice with full vehicle wraps, you should be able to wrap a car in 5 days.
Can you teach yourself how do you wrap cars?
Yes, but it's a skill that takes time and practice. The more you practice, and the more you can observe and learn from more experienced car wrappers, the more confident and proficient you will become. We recommend starting out with a foundation course in the basics as this will give you a solid understanding of the materials you are working with, as well as tried and tested techniques. How long does a car wrap last Australia?
This depends on the specific product, the quality of the installation, and how the wrap is maintained and cared for over time. A professional car wrap, using advanced and high quality materials, can continue to look its best for several years. At ORAFOL, we use the latest in self-adhesive graphic products, cutting edge polymer films, and advanced adhesive tape systems, combined with expert installation, because we believe in adding real value for our customers.
Do car wraps damage the paint?
ORAFOL car wraps are guaranteed not to damage the vehicle's paintwork. We use the highest quality materials, films and tapes so that they last for years but can also be removed without a trace. Lower quality materials or poor installation practices could damage the paintwork, which is why it's important to use trusted professionals.
What is the difference between vinyl and vinyl wrap?
There is no difference. A vinyl wrap is a general term for the material used to wrap the vehicle, whether it's to change the colour or finish, to add graphics, or to install a protective film over the paintwork. Vinyl wraps can be full or partial, and there is a wide range on the market, of varying quality.
What are the drawbacks of vinyl wrap?
A vinyl wrap is a great way to give a vehicle a whole new look, or add unique and eye-catching graphics, but it's crucial to choose a good quality wrap and to care for it over time. Poor quality or budget vinyl wraps can easily scuff, scratch or fade. You should clean your car wrap regularly, and buff with a microfibre cloth, but avoid any harsh chemicals or waxes.
Does the sun ruin vinyl wrap?
UV rays can cause the vinyl wrap to fade or crack, and can also make it much harder to remove. When possible, the vehicle should be parked out of the sun, and the wrap should be wiped down with water on a regular basis. Certain protective films can help to extend the lifespan of your car wrap – speak to our team to find out more.
What colour car is easiest to wrap?
The colour of the vehicle doesn't make a difference - any colour of car can be wrapped with a colour change wrap, a gloss or matte finish, vinyl graphics, or a protective film. This is why car wrapping is such a popular way of giving a vehicle a completely new look, or using a car for advertising or promotional purposes.
Can you wrap a car with no paint?
It’s not possible to achieve the necessary adhesion if the vehicle is unpainted. If there are any imperfections, scratches or peels in the painted finish of the car, this will also affect the quality of the wrap. For a smooth and seamless car wrap, an undamaged paint finish is important.
What tools do I need to wrap a car?
The main tools required to wrap a car are a tucking tool, for fitting the vinyl around tricky corners and angles, a very sharp knife or wrap cutter, and a heat gun for softening the vinyl wrap so that it will stretch tightly around the vehicle’s contours. It’s also useful to have a clay bar for removing dust and dirt from the car’s paintwork before applying the wrap. Other equipment includes gloves, a squeegee, and a microfibre cloth.
How many rolls of wrap do you need for a car?
This will depend on the size of the vehicle, but in general it takes about 18-25 metres of roll to wrap a car. You can work out the rough surface area of the vehicle by measuring the length of the car and multiplying by 3 (for the top and sides), but be sure to add some extra for bumpers. It’s also important to give yourself some wiggle room for mistakes and off-cuts, so be sure to round up and get slightly more roll than you think you will need.
What grit sandpaper before vinyl wrap?
There is no need to use sandpaper on the vehicle before applying the vinyl wrap. To achieve a smooth surface, and for optimum adhesion, use a clay bar that can be rubbed over the car's paintwork to remove dust and dirt.
Can you use soapy water to apply vinyl wrap?
We do not recommend using soapy water to apply a vinyl wrap to a vehicle. This is sometimes known as 'wet installation' but it does not achieve a quality finish that lasts. At ORAFOL, we use the latest adhesive products and technologies, as well as professional installation techniques, which is why we can guarantee the highest quality of finish.
How do I maintain a vehicle wrap?
It’s important to clean the vehicle regularly, but avoid solvents and other chemicals. It’s best to hand wash your wrapped car, rinse with clean water and a squeegee, and finish with a microfibre cloth. Parking out of direct sunlight as much as possible will also help to protect your wrap. Speak to our team about the various coatings and sealers that are available for protecting and prolonging the life of a vinyl wrap.
Can a vehicle wrap be repaired if it gets damaged?
If your vinyl wrap is damaged in any way, such as scratches or peeling, it can usually be repaired by car wrapping professionals. This might mean using a heat gun to soften and remould the wrap, or to smooth it out. Sometimes, it might be necessary to replace the wrap on one panel of the vehicle, but this doesn’t have to mean a complete re-wrap.
Will a vehicle wrap damage the original paint?
A professional vehicle wrap, using the latest materials, technologies and techniques, will not damage the paintwork of your vehicle as long as you keep it clean and well-maintained. The vinyl film is applied over the top of the original paintwork and can be removed at a later date, without damage. Speak to the experienced specialists at ORAFOL to find out what we can do.
