Markets and applications

Markets
Microstructured optics from ORAFOL are used worldwide in the high-tech segments machine vision, sensor technology, lighting, display and solar energy. Numerous market leaders trust ORAFOL‘s experience and expertise in the production of Fresnel structures, microlens arrays, retro-reflectors and more.
Machine Vision
ORAFOL products are used in machine vision applications both in an imaging role and for specialized illumination components.
Microstructured polymer optics are used in industrial machine vision applications, often as illumination optics for demanding tasks. They are a preferred solution because of the weight and space-saving characteristics. ORAFOL is able to manufacture optics larger than 1 m².
The product scope ranges from circular and cylindrical Fresnel lenses to prisms and retro-reflectors. In addition to readily available standard designs customer-specific optics using special polymers can be realized.
Lenses for telecentric and pericentric inspection can be offered as well as highly efficient ring light optics. The manufacturing process allows for flexible and efficient production of large and small volumes.

Sensor technology
Optical components from ORAFOL are developed precisely for sensor applications.
The fresnelization of optical surfaces is beneficial for the miniaturization of sensor systems. Our manufacturing technology is optimized for large-scale production of small sensor optics, both microstructred and unstructured with high precision and low tension. Depending on the application we can realize complex geometries and optics composed of different structures. Different materials and optional optical coatings allow for flexibility in manufacturing highly efficient optics.

Lighting
ORAFOL has decades of experience in the production of microstructures for lighting systems. The focus lies on architectural lighting, specialized event lighting and signaling systems.
Various lighting systems benefit from our expertise in design and prodction of optical microstructures allowing for effects that would not be possible with conventional lenses. Optical coatings for increased of decreased reflection of light are used to enhance efficiency and and aesthetics.

Display
ORAFOL offers light guides with high efficiency as polymer optics or silicone on glass hybrid.
To ensure even illumination diffusive structures and printed dot patterns are applied. The manufacturing of plane-parallel elements is possible as well as wedge-shaped ones.
Solar
In close cooperation with partners worldwide ORAFOL develops and manufactures optical elements for high-concentrating and low-concentrating photovoltaic systems as well as solarthermal ones (HCPV, LCPV, CST).
The focus of our solar product range is circular concentrator lenses and lens arrays made of PMMA and silicone on glass (SOG). Different thicknesses are possible, as are dimensions beyond one square meter.
Our SOG components are certified according to IEC 62108.
